Jen and Angela, visionaries for Capture a Moment Photography, have known each other for over 20 years. As time has passed, each have found a multitude of experience through college, law school, marriage and families. At every crossing, the loyal camera has always been at their sides.
Capture a Moment Photography is in constant search of those stolen moments. The kind of moments that capture the heart through the lens and are then remembered for years to come in timeless images. They strive in every shoot to photograph that moment, whether it is a stolen smile, a kiss between siblings, a peaceful baby, or true love between two people. When that true moment is captured, it is magical and that is their goal. Jen and Angela love getting to know you and are passionate in creating images that will tell your life story forever.
Capture a Moment Photography believes that these moments are best found in your natural element. We love natural light shoots in your backyard, at a nearby park or even in your own home. We currently specialize in capturing families, newborns, children, high school seniors, expectant moms and small celebrations.
Jen Dera is a passionate Professional Photographer, known for her visually striking and emotionally moving artistic style.
After the birth of her first child in 2000, Jen officially embarked upon her creative journey. She spent a decade avidly honing her craft through multiple classes and tons of trial and error.
By 2010, Jen teamed up with her lifelong friend and fellow creative mind, Angela. At that moment, Capture a Moment Photography, LLC was born. As the photography studio’s Co-founder, she currently specializes in Children/Newborn, Families, and Seniors. (High School Senior sessions are her personal favorite.)
Ultimately, Jen’s mission is to provide a pleasant, hassle-free experience for each and every customer who walks through those studio doors. Experiencing headache-inducing “big box” photography studios first-hand, she quickly realized that she could do so much better. For seven years, she has made it a point to offer photo services that say no to stress, delayed appointment times, and low-tier customer service.
When she isn’t capturing beauty through a camera lens, Jen Dera serves as the President of the L'Anse Creuse High School Marching Band, which consists of over 200 students. Above all, she enjoys spending quality time with her loved ones who inspire her to be her best each day. Jen has been happily married to her wonderful husband Denny for 16 years, and she is the proud mother of three beautiful children named Shelby (12), Dylan (14), and Ethan (17).
Angela Bilen is a sensitive soul with a drive to keep people smiling while capturing moments that last a life time.
After Angela graduated from law school and passed the Michigan State Bar in 2004, she began a life as an attorney and soon after, a mother. During it all, Angela always had a trusty camera with her. Angela's passion in photography persisted and she bought her first "big girl camera". For her birthday, her husband enrolled her into a photography class at Macomb Community College, and from there the learning, practicing and improving has never stopped. Dial forward to 2010, Angela realized her passion was in capturing beautiful images of both her children and others. As she teamed up with Jen Dera, she embarked upon a fulfilling journey that has allowed her to enjoy her time both with the people she loves and the clients that turn to friends in just one session.
As Co-founder of Capture A Moment Photography, you will often find Angela making fast friends with the youngest family member, or finding ways to help their clients feel more at ease in front of the camera. Angela's goal is make the entire experience as stress free as possible and excellent customer service is icing on the cake. Angela truly enjoys photographing children, families and especially loves photographing newborns.
When Angela is not behind the camera, Angela continues to practice law, specializing in Estate Planning. For fun, Angela enjoys working in her garden and landscaping but is most often found spending time with her loving husband (and middle school sweetheart) of almost 19 years and/or finding things to do with her 3 beautiful children, Jonathan (12), Andrew (10), and Evelyn (5).
