Addie | Newborn Photography

July 15, 2016

We are so excited to welcome Miss Addie to the world!  Newborn Photography is one of our many favorite sessions and it is especially awesome when we are able to watch a family grow. Addie is the newest member to this family.  We were honored to photograph her big sister Ellie and now we were honored once again to photograph their newest family member.  Addie is beautiful just like her big sister and Mom and Dad.  Thank you for letting us be a part of Capturing each Moment as your family grows! It is always fun to watch new parents as well as seasoned parents when they come into the studio with their new baby.  As expected, parents are very nervous with trusting just anyone with their brand new baby and we take that responsibility very seriously.  What we have learned is that with time and with each pregnancy, the parents become more comfortable with us and we are more comfortable with them and with trust comes even more amazing pictures.  It is also a great time for us to learn more about their family, to talk and to hear more about life with their newest member of the family. As we have had many shoots with this beautiful family before, every experience is different.  It was nice to hear that mom felt her favorite part about their newborn session with Addie was seeing how her “look” came together with the background and props. She loved seeing the ideas and colors come to life with Addie as the cutest model. Every session comes together in different ways and we never know exactly how it is going to go.  It is dependent on the mood of the baby, the feeding schedule, and the creative inspiration for that day.  Rest assured, each session is unique.

As with every photo shoot, preparation is often key.  Mom prepared for the photo shoot by making sure Addie had a bath and ate really well so that she would sleep for the photo shoot.  It worked well, Addie was a wonderful little model and we did make sure to give mom plenty of time to feed her as needed as well as change her and get her ready for her next set. Mom was a little worried that Addie wouldn’t sleep during the session and that she’d require her to breastfeed her for the majority of the shoot. “Thank goodness she’s like her Mom and Dad and really likes her sleep!” Many parents are concerned about the shoot and how it is going to go.  Mom told us that “If I could give advice to parents with upcoming newborn photos I would tell them that there was plenty of time during the shoot for me to change and feed Addie and still get lots of great shots so don’t let that be a concern, just make sure the baby is clean. As always, the parents set the tone so relax and have fun with it!”  Great advice!  Babies and children feed off of the stress and anxiety of their parents.  If mom and dad are stressed out, the baby will be stressed out.  A wonderful tip is to make sure that the session will work out great as long as every one takes a deep breath and just lives in the moment.
As we work through each session, we get the chance to sit and chat as the baby is getting changed or fed.  It is so much fun to hear all of the different stories about how they found out they were pregnant and how they felt when they first met their sweet baby.  Mom told us that when she first took the at home test she didn’t actually think that it would come back with a positive result.  “I had to rub my eyes just to make sure I was seeing correctly. After James and I found out that we really were pregnant we were ecstatic. We were hoping that Ellie would have a sibling close in age and we couldn’t believe it was happening!” James and Cindy have one older child (1 1/2 years), Ellie. Mom said that “Ellie is ALWAYS talking about her “baby sister”.” And that she points to the swing in the living room and says “baby sister”. “When we’re getting ready to go shopping Ellie will say “baby sister’s car seat”. She’s been very observant and pays special attention to all of the things that “baby sister” uses and needs. She even offers her a pacifier when she cries. It’s been really sweet watching her care for Addie.”  Ellie was very attentive to Addie during the photo shoot as well.  Unfortunately, Ellie wasn’t interested in participating in the photo shoot with Addie.  When little ones are a year and a half old, they aren’t typically interested in patiently waiting for pictures to be taken. Mom did originally put the girls in matching outfits but Ellie didn’t take too well to being photographed that day. Looks like we’ll have to get that picture on another day.
Mom did take some time to reminisce about the day Addie was born and all the days leading up to her birth.  Mom said “when I first saw Addie in the delivery room I couldn’t believe that she had red hair! During my pregnancy, I thought of what she would look like so many times but since her sister, her Dad and I have blonde hair I figured she would too. I absolutely love the color and it’s so full!” It is interesting because that was the first thing that Jen and I both noticed when they brought Addie out of her car seat, the red hair!  She looks just like her sister but with red hair.  We are excited to see how she grows and changes and how her red hair will change and grow over the next year!
We have had the fortunate experience to spend the last year and a half with this beautiful family and just as their last package ended, Addie came into our lives.  It is always great getting to hear feedback from parents that have already spent over a year with us.  Mom loved seeing Addie as our model! She was a little nervous whether or not she was picking the right outfits or bows. However mom was “really glad that you keep extra diaper covers and bows on site. Knowing that you had back ups we could rely on made me much less worried about having all of the right “looks” on hand.” It is always great having a mix of things that are important to each family but also having tons of options available and on hand to add and mix things up.  I think the combinations worked out perfectly.
Mom also talked to us about her favorite session thus far and she said “I always love our sessions together but our last session with Ellie, James and myself was one of my favorites. Ellie is a year and a half and gets such a kick out of playing with her Dad. He was really able to get a lot of genuine smiles from her. We also got some really nice family photos in a sunny and shaded area, it was the perfect location.” We spent our last session with them at Lake St. Clair Metropark during a gorgeous evening.  We walked through the woods and down the paths and “played” while photographing this beautiful family while mom was still pregnant with Addie.  I can’t wait to return to that spot with all four of them!

As always, we had a great time in our session with Addie & Mom as well as Dad and Ellie and we look forward to capturing many more moments with this great family.
