James | High School Senior Photography | LCHS Class of 2017

July 1, 2016

We had a lot of High School Senior Photography sessions in the last week!  Up on the blog this time around is James, a Class of 2017 High School Senior at L’Anse Creuse High School.  James listed tennis and band as his extracurricular activities and I think those were both pretty well represented during his session.    After graduation, he plans to attend Eastern Kentucky University and major in Fire Protection Administration.  Way to go, James!

James decided that the kind of look he was going for in the shoot was a serious and also funny look.  Sometimes when someone attempts serious it begets funny and we definitely had that going on that day, so I would say he accomplished his goal.  As a guy, sessions can sometimes be a bit tedious as they aren’t always a fan of having their pictures taken (at any age!) but James told us that his overall experience with his senior photo session was amazing and he is excited to see all of the pictures.  I’m going to go out on a limb here and guess his mom is excited as well!  That is just the kind of feedback that we LOVE to hear!

As we enter into the High School Senior Session time of year, there are often many questions about the sessions.  We are often asked specifically about the number of clothing changes allowed at a session.  We always say that it is your session, so it is completely up to you.  Just be mindful of where your session is taking place and the ability you have to change in privacy.  In James’ case, he brought three changes of outfits and felt it was enough but said that four could have worked as well.  His approach to outfit selection was to simply select his favorite outfits.  (Don’t forget to de-wrinkle those outfits!).  Along with outfit changes, he brought along his tennis racquet, his car, and his instruments.  His philosophy was that “these are big things in my life, so I wanted to represent them in the pictures.”  We couldn’t agree more James!  The biggest reason for senior pictures is to Capture who you are, what you love and the things that have meant so much to you over the years.

Location! Location! Location!  A big decision for every senior session is where to have the pictures taken!  It varies for everyone and we are always willing to give suggestions but to also lead you to a place that might fit your particular personality.  In this case, James picked the City of Mount Clemens because he really likes the city and had seen other senior pictures taken in the downtown area and thought those looked great and felt the City of Mount Clemens would be a match for him.  We fully agreed and we love our walks through the City, finding the perfect places for each client to express their personality.  The City is also a great place for those that want to have pictures taken with their vehicles.  We had a multitude of options that day and the pictures turned out awesome! The City scape works well for all seniors as there is a variety of locations, textures and options to express yourself.  Every time we visit the City for a shoot, we find a new place, a new pose, a new option for everyone.

The last thing that James wanted to share with anyone having their senior pictures taken is to “come with an open mind.” Bravo James!  He did just that and it shows in all of his images.  A shoot can be taxing and sometimes we can get caught up in images we have seen before, or look at something and maybe we as the photographers see something that you might not.  The best way to handle it is to go with the flow!  It is better to try the spot and let there be a chance it turns out amazing!

We had a great time with you James and look forward to working with you this up and coming year as one of our Model Team Members as you celebrate your last year of High School!  Enjoy it, the time goes by so very quickly!
